Title: WebSockets

Abstract: Every time a program talks to another program, there’s some kind of protocol being used. Even if you think there’s no protocol, you’re using a defacto protocol. By studying carefully designed modern protocols like WebSockets and seeing how the design choices fit together and why each choice was made, we can make our defacto protocols better and more future-proof. In this talk, I’ll dive deep into the details of the WebSockets protocols and draw connections to the much simpler protocols we create in our everyday programs.

About Leah: Leah Hanson is a software engineer at Pivotal in New York, working on Cloud Foundry. Leah attended RC twice, first in 2013 and again in 2016. She's given over 15 talks and workshops in the past five years, including many on the Julia programming language, and more recently on WebSocket internals.
